Big Boy Crayons

This week I decided to revert to pictures. Life should be fun right?

The hybrid PowerPoint drawing shows one effort to prioritize my active fiction projects and their level of completion. It doesn’t address the thirty to forty ideas fading from memory in shelved notebooks.

Big Boy Crayons

What projects are you working on?

  1. A friend responded to this post with an interesting question: “What’s the difference between a novella and a novelette?”

The short answer is “word count.”

    From Wikipedia:
    Short Story: Under 7,500 words
    Novellette: 7,500 to 17,500 words
    Novella: 17,500 to 40,000 words
    Novel: Over 40,000 words

It’s hard to say where a generic novel falls, since length varies based on intended audience, but 60,000 to 90,000 is probably a good range. According to Huffington Post, Tom Sawyer is ~65,000 words, while Tolstoy’s War and Peace weighs in at a hefty ~544,000 words.
